Caregiver Coach Expresses Vital Service in RCAW

Family caregivers experience many hardships.  As if their role of taking care of someone round-the-clock isn’t exhausting enough, there are many additional things that fall into their wheelhouse that others don’t think about.  Applications for services, medical appointments, budgets, insurance, and advocacy also take up much of their time and energy.

Getting a break from these duties isn’t a luxury, it is a necessity.  Affording to pay someone to provide respite care is oftentimes a barrier in receiving that break that allows them to rest, refresh, and recharge.

"RCAW provides a vital service for caregivers in Wisconsin. I tell every family I work with about their Caregiver Respite Grant Program (CRGP) and have helped many with the application process. Not only are Rachel and the staff at Respite Care Association of Wisconsin wonderful to work with, but the application process is quick and easy! Many caregivers do not have any natural support systems. Though on paper it may appear that they would be able to afford to pay out of pocket for respite services, the reality is that the majority cannot, but also do not qualify for other aging supportive services. For these families, RCAW allows them to do things like get needed medical care, be able to do shopping while knowing their loved one is safe, or visit with other family members. I highly recommend their services, and truly cannot imagine our community without them!"
